Androgenetic Alopecia: Current Understanding and Evidence Based Management

Dr. Ajay Nimbalkar 436 Views

Androgenetic alopecia is the most common form of hair loss and may present as male pattern baldness or female pattern hair loss. Management can be individualized according to disease severity, progression, treatment goals, and patient preferences.[1][2] Pharmacological therapies include topical and oral Minoxidil, Finasteride, Dutasteride, and Spironolactone, while other options may target different biological pathways involved in hair follicle function. Nonpharmacological treatments include low-level laser therapy, platelet-rich plasma, microneedling, and hair transplantation. Treatment selection can be guided by efficacy, safety, tolerability, and patient suitability. Emerging therapies targeting follicular signaling pathways, growth factors, peptides, and regenerative mechanisms continue to expand the therapeutic landscape. [3][4][5]
